The Law and Osteopathy
In 1993 Osteopathy became the first major complimentary health care profession to be accorded statutory recognition under the 1993 Osteopaths act. This culminated in the opening of a statutory register of Osteopaths by the General Osteopathic Council in 1998. John Bayliss DO is registered with this body.
About Osteopathy
Osteopathy is an established, recognised system of diagnosis and treatment that lays its main emphasis on the structural integrity of the body. It is distinctive in the fact that it recognises that much of the pain or disability we suffer stems from abnormalities in the function of the body structure as well as damage caused to it by disease. Osteopaths treat people of all ages from a few weeks old, right through to their most senior years.
Training
Osteopathic courses are lengthy, the College of Osteopaths course that John attended was over 6 years long. This is because Osteopaths pride themselves on their specialist knowledge of all the joints, muscles, ligaments and fascia in the body. Osteopaths do not just click backs. Osteopaths spend years learning about muscles, ligaments as well as joints and the viscera etc. Osteopathic courses are full medical courses in their own right.
What Osteopaths treat:
Osteopaths treat a wide variety of muscle, joint, ligament, nerve and soft tissue conditions. Due to restrictions placed on the Osteopathic profession by the ASA advertising standards authority, Osteopaths along with Chiropractors and Physiotherapists are restricted in listing the long list of conditions they treat.
Treatments available at clinic
