Passive Prone Techniques were discovered by Osteopath John Bayliss and are one of the practical applications  his ground breaking theories on the spinal mechanics has yielded.  PPT’s as they are known, offer one the very best, efficient and most advanced forms of manipulative treatment available today.

PPT’s are not modifications of existing techniques

PPT’s, are not ‘applied techniques’ which means that they are not modifications to existing manipulative procedures.  PPT’s were worked out from an entirely new set of protocols and are unlike any other genuine manipulation techniques that have gone before.

With PPT’s the patient is often unaware that they have been manipulated

Gone are the contorted body positions that locked the spine in preparation for manipulation and the joint cracking high velocity thrusts. Instead the body is placed in a relaxed comfortable position and the actual manipulation itself is no more than a gentle push.  Because the patient is relaxed and adopts a prone passive position they have no knowledge of if and when the manipulation will take place and more often than not, they are unaware when the manipulation has taken place. See preliminary research.

High Degrees of precision are possible with PPT manipulation

But do not let this fool you into thinking the PPT’s have little effect. They use the long levers of the body to align the body in the exact position needed to correct the joint together with a short lever accuracy. High degrees of precision are possible with outstanding results.  This is not all, because the PPT’s leave a very small trauma footprint on the joint manipulated, considerably more joints can be manipulated per session, which means quicker patient recovery  times with less treatment sessions  needed.  The efficiency of the techniques is unparalleled.

PPT manipulation is  suitable for nearly all age groups

Because of their gentleness, PPT’s can be used on certain types of patients who would not have previously been suitable for manipulation.

PPT Research shows patients have more symmetry to their skeletal frame

Continuing research so far  has shown that many patients who have had treatments using PPT’s found that after the session  they  felt noticeably taller and more mobile. Patients stand straighter and have more symmetry to  their skeletal frame.

PPT’s have been shown to correctly align the sacroiliac joints

Provisional research  from palpation and visual results  has so far  indicated that  correctional alignment  of the sacroiliac joints can be achieved with PPT manipulation. This will obviously need to be verified by more detailed future research.

To understand the new theoretical synergetic mechanics that led to the discovery of PPT’s,  buy the DVD now. The full colour professional edition of John’s book The Theory of Synergetic Spinal Mechanics and PPT Manipulation shows all of the spinal mechanics/subluxations etc in the DVD but in even more detail, and also shows how to apply PPT manipulation. Having said this, if you do have an interest in spinal mechanics and how subluxations are created, do remember that a moving picture is worth a thousand words.
